Introduction

Brow Lift

Dr. Paul prides himself on delivering natural, long-lasting results with minimal down time.

The most common reason a patient seeks a brow lift is a feeling that “their eyes are being crowded by their low brows”. They explain there is a  “mismatch between how they feel and how they look.” Patients look in the mirror and see their eyes are tired. Over time, the eyebrows descend and shadow the upper lids. At Dr. Benjamin Paul – Facial Plastic Surgery in New York City, we offer Brow Lift surgery to correct drooping eyebrows and restore a more rested look and feel.

The Basics

What is a Brow Lift?

A Brow Lift, also referred to as an eyebrow lift or forehead lift, is a cosmetic surgical proxcedure that raises your eyebrows to a better position. The primary goal of this treatment is to correct drooping eyebrows, “hooding” eyelids, forehead furrows, and frown lines. A brow lift will not stop you from being able to furrow or frown, but with your brow in a supported and elevated position, you will not need to continuously make these face which reduces lines and brow fatigue.

When performing a brow lift, Dr. Paul will reposition your eyebrow arch to a more elevated and flattering position which better frames the eyes.

Though there are different browlift types described, the most modern and most popular approach is an called an “endoscopic browlift”

Endoscopic Brow Lift

The Endoscopic Lift is a very popular technique that only requires five small incisions that are hidden in the hairline, leaving no visible scar.

This procedure can lift everything from the hairline to the eyebrows. It tightens and smoothes the entire forehead while lifting the eyebrow area to “open up” your upper face. Eyebrow shape and asymmetry can also be addressed with this type of lift.

Following the procedure, there will be some bruising and swelling. Paired “endotypes” are placed internally to support the result. These triangle supports are made of a complex sugar molecule and dissolve over a year.

Other types of brow lifts include a cut in the hair, in front of the hair, or above the brow. These lifts leave long scar lines.

Dr. Paul will discuss the pros and cons of each technique so the two of you can determine which option is the best choice.

  • CONSULTATION (PRIOR TO SURGERY)

When you come in to meet with Dr. Paul, he will examine your forehead and facial structure to create your personal procedure plan. We will look at your hairline, your forehead, your brow position, your forehead muscles, and your eyelids. We will discus your goals and our process. Our Patient Coordinator will help you schedule your surgery and provide pricing should you wish to move forward with the procedure.

    1st Visit
  • PREOPERATIVE VISIT

You will visit with us to review instructions related to your procedure. We will ensure you have set up your medical clearance and have all medicines sent in before your procedure day. We will answer any questions you have regarding your upcoming surgery.

    2nd Visit
  • DAY OF SURGERY

You will meet with Dr. Paul and your anesthesiologist. Markings will be placed for the procedure. You will be sedated for your surgery. Dr. Paul will make the appropriate incisions to adjust your brow and close the incisions. Your head will be wrapped in a gauze or bandage to protect the sealed incisions and add extra padding for protection. You will be able to return home to rest.

    3rd Visit
  • DAYS FOLLOWING SURGERY

The head wrap is able to be removed the following day. It is normal to have mild-to-moderate pain or discomfort (specifically a tightness in the forehead), and itching sensations at the incision sites. Any pain can be effectively managed with prescription pain medication and/or tylenol. You will be asked to return for a follow-up so that Dr. Paul can remove any stitches or staples and evaluate your recovery.

    (DAYS 1-7)
  • Weeks Following Surgery

You will be able to return to your job at this time, if not a little sooner. Swelling and bruising continue to fade and the results of the procedure start becoming apparent. Your brows may appear to be overly elevated, however, they will settle to a lower and more natural position after healing.

    (WEEKS 1-4)
  • MONTHS FOLLOWING SURGERY

Patients should begin seeing the final results of their procedure as most or all swelling and bruising dissipate. Most patients are fully recovered and can resume even the most strenuous physical activity.

Most patients are counseled to have botox in the healing as many facial muscles pull downward and fight the lift.  Botox is helpful to maintain the result, especially in the first year following a browlift.

    (MONTHS 1-6)
  • FINAL RESULTS

After much healing, the brows will have settled into their final position yielding the final result of the procedure, which can last a lifetime.

What are the Benefits of an Endoscopic Brow Lift?

In addition to the aesthetic enhancements of this cosmetic procedure, an Endoscopic Brow Lift in New York City can provide you with a few other benefits, such as:

  • Improves eyebrow position
  • Eliminates the “tired” or “angry’ look
  • Helps improve vision by opening up your eyes
  • Improves the appearance of the forehead
  • Long-lasting results
  • Reduces the signs of aging
  • Removes excess skin
  • No facial scarring (all incisions within the hair)

Who are the Best Candidates for an Endoscopic Brow Lift Procedure?

Any adult in the NYC area can be a great candidate for a Brow Lift, but ideal candidates should:

  • Maintain realistic expectations for results
  • No history of bleeding, clotting, or negative reactions to anesthesia

What’s The First Step?

If you are looking into an Endoscopic Brow Lift in New York City, your first step is to schedule your consultation with Dr. Paul. During the appointment, you can ask questions about the procedure, discuss your aesthetic goals, and have Dr. Paul examine your face and forehead. He will also ask you some questions about your medical history to create a personalized treatment plan that integrates your aesthetic preferences, individual needs, and desired results.

Using the information he collects, Dr. Paul will then create your surgical plan, which will include the techniques he plans on using, the anesthesia, and every other aspect of the procedure. If you are satisfied with the plan, you will meet with our Patient Coordinator to schedule your surgery. You will also be provided with some instructions to promote a higher potential of having a smooth surgery and recovery.

Please keep in mind that the more open and honest you are during your consultation, the better opportunity you will have of a successful surgery with less chance for unnecessary risks and side effects.

What to Expect on the Day of Brow Lift Surgery

On the day of your surgery, after meeting with Dr. Paul and going over your procedure one more time, you will be administered general anesthesia so your brow lift procedure is more tolerable.

Once you are sedated, Dr. Paul will begin your surgery using the technique(s) that were discussed during the consultation. The Endoscopic Brow Lift is performed with minimal incisions hidden in the hair using surgical telescopes known as endoscopes. A dissolving sugar molecule, known as an endotyne, is placed to support the result. The endotynes dissolve over 6-12 months.  This state-of-the-art method provides patients with the natural and beautiful results desired, with a magnificently rapid recovery. For a better understanding of what to expect during your procedure, please refer to the methods listed above.

A Endoscopic Brow Lift will typically take 1 hour to perform the procedure, depending on the techniques Dr. Paul uses and the degree of change you are looking to achieve.

Brow Lift Recovery

Your Brow Lift will be an outpatient procedure, which means most patients will be able to return home with the help of a family member or friend; if need be, we can help arrange for recovery at an aftercare facility. There will be some expected mild swelling and bruising, which should subside over the coming days. You will be provided post-operative instructions that will help make your recovery as easy and successful as possible.

Patients may shower and wash their hair on the first postoperative day after the drain has been removed. During the first five days after your procedure, you are encouraged to have minimal activity, routinely apply ice to your forehead, and keep your head elevated to reduce the amount of swelling.

You may go on some light walks, as well as up and down stairs, on the first day post-surgery. If you are feeling well enough, you could potentially return to work in about a week. You should be able to return to full activity starting at three to six weeks postoperatively.

As with all surgical procedures, there is some scarring from a brow lift procedure. However, the area of the incisions is all designed such that the scars will be hidden within the hairline.

Combine Your Endoscopic Brow Lift

The goal of brow lift is to create a face that appears refreshed and vibrant, while also being age-appropriate. To make the most of their new appearance, our NYC patients often choose to add additional cosmetic surgery procedures for a more unified and rejuvenated appearance.
