The Basics
What is a Neck Lift?
A neck lift is a surgical procedure designed to improve the appearance of the neck by tightening underlying muscles, removing excess skin, and refining contours along the jawline. In New York City, neck lift surgery is often performed to address loose skin, vertical neck bands, and fullness under the chin that can develop with age or weight changes.
There are many different types of necklifts. This procedure may involve platysmaplasty, liposuction, or skin excision, depending on individual needs. The best necklift approach will be discussed at your consultation.
- Central Deep Necklift – the central deep fat is directly excised and the platysma muscle is tightened with a platysmaplasty. Access is through a small horizontal incision hiding under the chin. This is excellent for younger patients with stubborn neck fulllness that remains even at ideal weight.
- Direct Necklift – a vertical ellipse of skin, fat and muscle are excised to tighten all layers of the neck.
- Neck Liposuction – a small liposuction cannula is used to remove superficial fat
- Full Necklift – a central incision under the chin is combined with an incision behind the ears to reduce unwanted fat and to tighten the skin and muscle. This procedure is often combined with a facelift to address the mid and lower face.
Neck lift surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. When performed by an experienced facial plastic surgeon, the result is a smoother, firmer, and more youthful neck profile.
